The play will be produced by Claque Theatre along with the community of the East side of the City of London and their neighbours. Claque Theatre, formerly Colway Theatre Trust are the founders of the community play movement and the leading exponents with 38 years experience producing over 40 productions throughout England and in America, Canada and Europe. Jon Oram, Claque's artistic director for the past 30 year will be directing the City Play. Claque have commissioned national playwright Stephen Lowe to write a the play to be performed in May/June 2018 in a tent on the new Aldgate Square in celebration of its opening. Following a public play reading there will be casting sessions, and everyone who attends will get a part. January 2018 will be the start of a three month production period with a residency of a professional theatre team including a director, designers, musical director and technical and stage mangers. A design studio will be open for the commmunity to work with the designers in costume.prop and set making. The performances will be in a promenade style with the hundred plus members of the cast playing out the drama on stages surrounding the audience.
